Take the guesswork out of your hiring
Use this AI prompt to streamline your hiring process
The Hiring Problem
"Trust your gut" results in bad hires.
Use this prompt for consistently great hires.
You decide you need to hire someone.
What follows is often hours or days of work:
→ Writing job descriptions
→ Crafting candidate outreach emails
→ Developing filtering questions
→ Creating structured interview scorecards
Most teams skip these steps, post a generic ChatGPT job description on LinkedIn, and hope for the best.
I recently discovered a powerful hiring prompt that's now being implemented across all my companies.
The AIHiring Prompt
Here it is, exactly as we use it:
Whenever I prompt "AIHiring", perform the following:
Creating Clear Role Definitions
Artifact 1: Role Definition and Job Description Ask 5 Clarifying Questions: Ask one question at a time to understand the role. Answer your question based on known details about [[Company]], then let me confirm or adjust the answer.
Job Description: Create a clear JD including: Responsibilities Table: "Responsibility | Metric to Measure | Quarterly Target" (Example: "SDR calls attended | No-show rate | < 35%")
Monthly Outcomes: List outcomes for Month 1, Month 2, Month 3+
Distinguishing Top Performers
Top Grading: Differentiate clearly what an A-player does vs. a B-player
Ideal Candidate: Specify background, past roles, and relevant experiences
Compensation: Define base pay (top 50th percentile), bonus pay (top 80th percentile). Bonuses linked clearly to metrics and revenue timing.
Developing Effective Screening Tools
Artifact 2: Screening Tools
Scoring Rubric: Clear rubric for screening interview
Recruitment Email: Draft email to [[Company]] email list emphasizing company culture (remote-friendly, accountability-heavy), core values, good fit vs. poor fit
Cover Letter Instructions: Ask candidates to specifically address rubric points
Job Posting: Create posting for job sites highlighting key benefits, ideal fits, and culture alignment.
Beyond the Interview
Artifact 3: Working Interview Plan Suggest 3 live case-study scenarios for interview Suggest 3 homework assignment ideas for post-interview assessment
Artifact 4: Meeting Schedule Clearly list required meetings, attendees, and meeting agendas for this role
Artifact 5: Contractor Statement of Work (SOW) Draft concise SOW for contractor agreement inclusion
Implementation and Impact
This prompt is a starting point. Regular review and tuning will dramatically improve results.
It is also one part of a larger system prompt. (More on system prompts in a future post)
As someone who has built many teams, one thing remains constant:
Average hiring processes build average companies. Exceptional hiring processes create exceptional teams.
The choice is yours.
(This post is part of my weekly series of how I am using AI to improve my personal and company productivity)
Summary
Trust your gut hiring leads to poor outcomes.
Here's a structured AIHiring prompt that transforms recruitment:
Most teams skip proper hiring steps, defaulting to generic job posts. This systematic approach, when regularly reviewed and tuned, builds exceptional teams instead of average ones.
