These are trying times for a host of people around the world, ranging from internal strife to massive natural calamities. These events must lead to our taking a much needed reality check as to where we are and how thankful we must be for everything we have. I believe many people in my generation as well as the ones after us, are losing this much needed perspective on prioritizing the important things in life. Things ranging from how we take our health, family and knowing that we have a roof over our heads for granted!

When we take a step back from the daily grind, the things we see can be quite remarkable. As such it is all about having a balanced view and being grateful for what we have. No matter how bad we think we may have, there are millions of people who probably do not have it half as good. Yet, we only stop to look up when we lose something or when things change. This causes pain to be amplified and distorts our perception of reality, once again.

One of my favorite quotes on this subject is:

“Real life isn’t always going to be perfect or go our way, but the recurring acknowledgement of what is working in our lives can help us not only to survive but surmount our difficulties.” — Sarah Ban Breathnach
