“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” Herman Cain

The first day of the new year is always a special time. It is like you have a fresh start, and can start off with a clean slate. Undoubtedly the forecasts for 2009 are not as rosy as the year before. However, I believe that we are all in charge of our own future. If we want it to turn a certain way, we have to make a conscious and concentrated effort to make sure we do whatever we can to ensure we achieve what we want. It is a lot easier to sit on the sidelines and just accept the fact that it is going to be an extremely difficult year and do nothing about it. If however you do want to bring about a particular change in your life, there is really no better time to start than…. now. Listed below are my top 5 series posts, traffic wise. I hope they will help make 2009 a great year for you.

Hi Usman,

I always believed in that quote about “Do what you love…”, but today I have changed my mind. I think is better to do something that you believe, my point is that if you do something that you love there is a high chance that you will make decisions based in personal feellings. I believe that when you need to make hard decision you need to stay real cool and take the logical path. In the other hand doing something that you believe in gives you the strenghts to continue and to make decision that are good for the company.

Ok, I know some people (very few indeed) that have reached sucess doing something they love, but I think that is an exception.

What do you think?

Lasse

P.S You blog is really cool. Thank you for sharing your experience

Hi Lasse,

Sorry for the delayed response. Your comment was blocked by the spam filter.

You have brought up an interesting point. The lines between the two points “Doing what you love” & “Doing what you believe in” are a little blurred. Often your belief in something is what drives your passion, in return it also motivates you to continue doing it day after day.

In my opinion one requires both emotion and logic to make optimal choices. When either one overrides the other it usually results in sub optimal decisions. As you mentioned, sometimes our emotions do get the better of us and we end up making irrational or illogical choices. I think that is just part of being human. Most times , the result of wrong choices help us to learn from difficult life lessons, in turn enabling us to achieve greatness and success in future.

I believe we should make an effort to pursue doing the things in life we are truly passionate about and bring us pleasure and satisfaction. Success is not something that should be counted only in dollars and cents. Success is more than that, it is a much deeper feeling of satisfaction and contentment.

Many thanks for the compliments. Hope to see you more regularly on the blog and connect with you on facebook or twitter.

Regards

Usman Sheikh
